The former chair of BBC Children in Need has resigned from the boards of two other charities after being convicted and sentenced over a road crash.

Last week, BBC Children in Need announced that it had accepted the resignation of its recently appointed chair Terry Duddy after he had been convicted of causing serious injury through careless driving.

Thames Valley Police reported that Duddy received an eight-month custodial sentence, suspended for 18 months, and was told to undertake 200 hours of unpaid work. He was also ordered to pay costs totalling £272 and banned from driving for 18 months.

On Friday, welfare charity Catch22 confirmed that Duddy had stepped down as its chair as well.

Catch22 said in a statement: “Our chair, Terry Duddy, has submitted his resignation today [21 November] which we’ve accepted.

“Terry has served as chair of Catch22 for the last six and a half years, during which time he’s led with passion, dedication and an unwavering commitment to our cause.”

Duddy also resigned as a trustee of the London Marathon Foundation (LMF) and as chair of its trading subsidiary London Marathon Events (LME).

“The trustees of LMF have accepted the resignation of Terry Duddy from the boards of the foundation and LME,” LMF said in a statement.

“We extend our sincere thanks to Terry for his commitment and contributions over the past five years.”
