The Disasters Emergency Committee has raised £90m for its Philippines typhoon appeal, making the appeal - after just three months – the third-most popular appeal in DEC history.

The Disasters Emergency Committee has raised £90m for its Philippines typhoon appeal, making the appeal - after just three months – the third-most popular appeal in DEC history.

The committee today announced the £90m milestone three months after which is still soliciting and accepting donations until May this year. The appeal was prompted by the devastating Typhoon Haiyan which ravaged the Asian archipelago in early November last year. The initial public response to the campaign was emphatic, .

DEC’s member charities have been working on the ground in the Philippines, reportedly delivering aid to 4 million people impacted by the natural disaster. Some 14 million people were effected by the typhoon, and the international response remains only 45 per cent funded.

The £90m raised for the Philippines puts this appeal behind the 2010 Haiti earthquake appeal, which raised £107m, and 2004’s tsunami appeal which raised an unparalleled £392m.
