The Disasters Emergency Committee has launched an appeal for Pakistan as floods continue to ravage the north.

This DEC this afternoon opened the ‘Pakistan Floods Appeal’ and will air commercials on the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Sky and Channel 5 from Friday. Radio adverts will also run from later this week.

Today’s announcement follows already being launched by DEC’s member agencies, including Concern Worldwide , both of which have set a target of £4m for their Pakistan appeals. Islamic Relief and the British Red Cross have also already launched appeals, as had Merlin.

Christian Aid, Concern and Oxfam have released funds from their emergency war chest to respond to the crisis.

As part of the agreement agencies sign up to with the DEC, individual charities will now promote the DEC umbrella appeal.

DEC phone lines are already open and the website is ready to take donations. The public will also be able to donate via SMS, post and at Post Offices and banks from Thursday onwards.

Donations can be directed to the DEC website.
