Charity Bank has announced that its book of drawn loans has exceeded £100m for the first time since it was set up in 2002.

The organisation, which ceased to be a charity in 2013, has almost doubled its loan book in the past two and a half years, from £52.2m at the start of 2015.

It has provided over £185m of loan finance support to more than 850 organisations since it was set up.

Patrick Crawford, chief executive of Charity Bank, said: “Our growth provides further evidence of how more charities and social enterprises are using loan finance to help them deliver their missions.

“We continue to be inspired by the charities and social enterprises we have the privilege to work with every day as they help the disadvantaged, enrich lives and improve communities. These organisations are the real heroes and it is our role and privilege to be here to support what they do.”

The five loans that most recently helped Charity Bank grow its loan book to £101m include Elderpark Housing Association, which will use the money to refurbish 29 more rental units in the Govan area of Glasgow.

It has also issued loans to Glossopdale Furniture Project, Hudswell Community Charity, YMCA Black Country Group and Stretham & Wilburton Community Land Trust.

Further information about Charity Bank's loan book can be seen in its 2017/18 portfolio report.
