Chant for charity

A new website is asking people to donate their voice to help raise money for charities.

Launching worldwide tomorrow, Global Chant is encouraging members of the public from all around the world to upload their voice to the website which musicians can then use to “make beautiful music” which can be sold to raise money for charities.

To mark the launch of the site, music producer Youth (Martin Glover) and Alex Paterson from The Orb have remixed the group’s top 10 UK hit Little Fluffy Clouds using voices from the United Nations climate talks.

Events taking place tomorrow to mark the launch of the movement include chants at Stonehenge, the Maldives and a village in the Himalayas, as well as a flashmob at the mouth of the Amazon led by composer and poet Manaus.

Youth (Glover) said: “The human voice is powerful manna medicine for the world right now. Chanting creates magic, community and enchantment.”

When users upload their voice to the site they will be asked to support one of seven causes, then listen to the note related to that cause, sing it themselves and record it on their mobile phone before uploading their 'chant' to the website.

Causes and notes:

  • Health – C
  • Humanity – D
  • Sustainability – E
  • Forests – F
  • Water – G
  • Atmosphere – A
  • Animals – B
