Several campaigning bodies are joining forces next weekend to host free debates, workshops and arts events aimed at informing and mobilising people on local and global justice issues.

The objective of 6 Billion Ways is to build a “broad movement for progressive change” and provide attendees with new skills and knowledge to help them campaign for change.  It is organised by Friends of the Earth, World Development Movement, War on Want, People and Planet, Jubilee Debt Campaign, Rich Mix and City Circle.

It will take place in five venues in Shoreditch, East London from 9.30am until midnight on Saturday 5 March, followed by an ‘open space’ discussion in Toynbee Hall on the Sunday afternoon. Entry to 6 Billion Ways is free.

Some 54 speakers are confirmed from academia, trade unions, charities, think tanks, government, environmental groups, grassroots community activists, the arts and the media.  Among them are Green Party MP Caroline Lucas; former Guantanamo Bay detainee Moazzam Begg; Gareth Pierce, the lawyer who represented the Birmingham Six and the Guildford Four; Ellie O’Hagan, founder of UK Uncut in Liverpool; Julia Tomlinson, widow of G20 protestor Ian; environmental journalist John Vidal and Dave Randall, guitarist with the band Faithless.

At least 40 discussions, workshops and films will cover a plethora of issues ranging across climate justice, repressive regimes, civil liberties, the global food system, the history of money, fuel poverty, trade sanctions, public spending cuts, street theatre and religion.

The Saturday will be rounded off with a Latin-themed party from Movimientos.
