Eating disorder charity beat was named 'Exciting Newcomer' in the Empowering Young People and Citizens category at the Nominet Internet Awards.
The charity, which used to be called the Eating Disorders Association, was recognised for its My Personal Best website, which is an online community managed by young volunteers and used by them to share their experiences.
Susan Ringwood, chief executive at beat, said: “We are thrilled to have won this award which comes as the result of a great deal of time and commitment put in by our volunteers and our partnership with Balloon Dog.”
My Personal Best launched in May 2010 and was developed through a partnership with marketing agency Balloon Dog.
Young Dad’s TV was the winner in the Empowering Young People and Citizens category and other winners on the night included the Silver Surfers Day initiative and an online e-safety tool for schools.
The Nominet awards are an annual event recognising the achievements of UK individuals and organisations making the internet more secure and more accessible.
