Cancer Research UK has raised £90,000 for its appeal to help rebuild its Manchester Institute following a large fire last month.

Over £60,600 has been raised through a JustGiving page from over 1,300 supporters for the fire which caused significant damage to the Cancer Research UK institute in Manchester’s Christie Hospital last month. The remaining amount has come from a combination of web donations, text-to-donate and cheques.

Over 100 firefighters and 16 fire engines attended the scene after the fire broke out on Wednesday 26 April. Firefighters finally left the scene on Saturday 29 April.

Ed Aspel, executive director of fundraising and marketing at Cancer research UK, said: “We’re so grateful to everyone who has supported and donated to Cancer Research UK after the fire in our labs at the Manchester Institute. The appeal has now reached £90,000."

He added that CRUK does not yet know the cause of the fire or the extent of the damage.

Civil Society Media is hosting its annual Charity Property Conference on 4 July 2017 which includes a session on dealing with disaster. For more information, and to book, click here.
