A national charity must pay a former employee almost £25,000, a tribunal has ordered.

Choice Support charity supports autistic people, and people with learning disabilities or mental health needs.

Data for the financial year ending 31 March 2022, published on the Charity Commission website, puts the charity’s total income at more than £65m.

A claim for unfair dismissal, brought by a former employee, was ruled to be well founded and succeeded, as did the claimant’s claim for wrongful dismissal and unauthorised deductions.

The claimant was awarded £4,973 in respect of a basic award, and £16,342 in respect of a compensatory award for unfair dismissal.

She was also awarded £2,936 for wrongful dismissal representing seven weeks’ notice pay.

The average monthly number of employees during Choice Support’s most recent financial year was 2,608.

In 2019, the charity doubled in size when it merged with mcch, another social care charity.
