Andrew Flanagan is chief executive of the NSPCC, joining in January 2009 following the departure of Dame Mary Marsh.
Before joining the children’s charity, Flanagan held a number of chairman and director roles, including Heritage House Group, Fleming Media, NESTA and PhonePayPlus. From 1999 until 2005, he was a non-executive director of the Scottish Rugby Union.
Until 2006, Flanagan was chief executive of media giant SMG plc for more than ten years. Under his tenure, SMG grew from a single ITV franchise to be a major player in UK media, owning Scotland’s principal commercial television network STV, a major producer of popular network television series such as Taggart and Rebus. A chartered accountant, Flanagan had joined SMG in 1994 as director of finance.
He is married to Virginia and they have two sons and a daughter.
