As Christmas fast approaches, we've looked at some of the top festive campaigns from charities this year.

WWF say become a tiger protector

This Christmas WWF is getting supporters to become a tiger protector, with the launch of its tiger protector Christmas advert.

In the advert, an ordinary family wake up one day to find a huge injured tiger in their home, which they then help nurse back to health before it goes back into the jungle.

Tiger numbers have plummeted by over 95 per cent in the last century, but there are signs that things are beginning to change for the better – for the first time in conservation history, wild tiger numbers are increasing.

The advert invites people to become a “tiger protector” and give WWF £5 a month. Children can also receive a personalised book, The Tiger Protector, where they can “step into their own wild tiger adventure”.

Alzheimer’s Research UK: What if… Santa Forgot?

Alzheimer’s Research UK has launched a new campaign this Christmas that brings home the impact of the disease. The Santa Forgot campaign explores the idea of Santa having dementia through an animation that imagines Christmas without him. 

The advert, which is narrated by Stephen Fry and created by Aardman Animations, imagines a world where the magic of Christmas has been lost because Santa is living with the effects of dementia and no longer visits children across the world on Christmas Eve.

It follows Freya, a young girl who has grown up in a world where Santa has stopped visiting on Christmas Eve. On learning about Santa’s condition, Freya travels to the North Pole. She offers her own support and re-mobilises the redundant elves as researchers, explaining her belief that ‘if Santa has a disease, research can find a way to fix it’.

Dogs Trust become Socks Trust

Dogs Trust is taking a stand against impulse puppy purchasing by changing its names to Socks Trust this Christmas, encouraging people to give #GiveSocksNotDogs.

To highlight the huge number puppies given as gifts and then given up by ill-prepared owners, the charity has created an exclusive line of festive socks featuring some of the dogs left abandoned over the festive season.

Championing the most conventional and possibly least returned Christmas present of all - a safe pair of socks - Socks Trust is working to avoid the plight of puppies bought on a whim and neglected when the reality of dog ownership sinks in. 

The charity said that last year, a staggering 3,400 calls were made in the 30 days following Christmas from new owners wanting to give up their dog, amounting to a staggering 113 calls about unwanted dogs per day. 

Dogs Trust's iconic slogan 'A Dog is For Life, Not Just For Christmas,' first coined 38 years ago, remains as relevant as ever, as the charity finds itself picking up the pieces when the appeal of a cute puppy wears thin.

Save the Children’s Christmas Jumper Day

Once again Save the Children are encouraging people to wear their Christmas jumpers on Christmas Jumper Day, which is this year taking place on Friday 16 December. 

People are being encouraged to get in the festive spirit by donating £2 to wear their Christmas jumpers to school or work, which will go towards helping save children’s lives. The campaign has so far raised over £41,000 – well before the day itself has even taken place.
