Happy Friday, readers, and please gather round the Society Diary’s fireplace for another interview – so skewering, it would make prime Paxman blush – with a charity sector figure.

Bravely stepping into Diary’s pressure cooker this week is qualified lawyer, Luton-native, and BBC Children in Need’s chief officer for children, Fozia Irfan.

You can read our conversation below.

How often do you edit your Wikipedia page?

“I had no idea I had one until recently, but now it is checked daily.”

Is Luton as rough as everyone says?

“Absolutely not. It has the most vibrant and nonchalant community – and wait until you try the food in Bury Park.”

As a Scout leader, did you enjoy wearing a woggle?

“I confess I was the worst Scout leader – I hate camping and would stay in a nearby hotel on trips away.”

What’s Pudsey like away from the cameras?

“Shockingly well behaved and incredibly cuddly.”

What is it about lawyers that some people distrust?

“I can’t imagine what it is – maybe our ability to never give a straight answer. But on the other hand…”

Favourite carbohydrate?

“All of them.”

Is there anything that scares you?

“People who say: ‘Let’s just jump on a quick call.’”

What’s the first single you bought?

“It Must Have Been Love by Roxanne. Go ahead and judge me.”

Have you ever been starstruck?

“Yes, when Greta Thunberg took a call opposite me, in the BBC café – I lost the ability to speak.”

Who should be the next Strictly presenters?

“A hijabi who loves Strictly…. And yes, I am available.”
