Sunday 8 March is International Women’s Day so lots of charities have been focusing on the aspects of their work that involve women including Medecins Sans Frontieres, Plan UK and Action Aid UK.

Medecins Sans Frontieres and Tomorrow Needs Her

This week Medecins Sans Frontiers launched its multimedia project Because Tomorrow Needs Her aiming to draw attention to the female mortality in countries it works in.

Using immersive storytelling techniques articles on different aspects of women’s health are interspersed with stunning photographs, slideshows and pop out case studies to keep readers engaged as they scroll down the page.

Why we love it: a lot of time and effort has gone into creating such a slick interactive platform; it’s good to see a charity using digital tools to enhance traditional long-form articles.

Plan UK and Give Child Marriage the Finger

The campaign, which aims to raise awareness of the problem of child marriage, is part of Plan UK’s Because I am a Girl campaign. When people donate £5 they will be sent a ring that they can wear to show support for the campaign.

Plan UK is encouraging people to take a photo of themselves wearing the ring and share it on social media to encourage others to donate.

For International Women’s Day the charity is asking supporters to sign to Thunderclap and flood Twitter and Facebook with messages about the campaign at 11am.

Why we love it: while the Because I am a Girl campaign has been around for a while but by refreshing the angle it manages to stay relevant.

ActionAid UK - Our top five most inspirational women

On Wednesday ActionAid UK used its own blog to share the stories of five women being helped to realise their potential with the charity’s support.

The charity highlighted a women’s rights activists, health workers and teachers who are helping to improve their communities.

So far the blog has been shared more than 100 times on Twitter and almost the the same number of times on Facebook.

Why we love it: the success of Buzzfeed has proved that people on the internet love a list and it’s great to see the techniques that usually attract us to read about kittens sleeping in funny places being used by a charity to talk about its work.
