Not for first time Social Charity Spy is looking at how charities got on board with the Great British Bake Off final, as well as Rethink Mental Illness’ new video for Schizophrenia Awareness Week.
#GBBOFinal
Countless charities were tweeting on Wednesday with the hashtag #GBBOFinal as fans of the Great British Bake Off eagerly waited to find out who would be crowned king or queen of cakes.
Charities who got involved included National Trust, The Brooke, Action Aid and Historic Royal Palaces.
Why we love it: One of the key themes of successful charity campaigning is to tap in to the prevailing zeitgeist. Which this week is (again) cakes.
Schizophrenia Awareness Week
For schizophrenia awareness week, Rethink Mental Illness has published a four minute video, which looks at some of the derogative terms people who live with schizophrenia hear, and highlighting the discrimination they face.
The charity is aiming to change the conversation on schizophrenia. It invited four people who have lived experience of schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder or psychosis to share their stories in its video. They are also encouraging people to tweet with the hashtag #LetsRethink, and host their own awareness raising tea parties.
Why we love it: The video is an orginal take on a difficult and delicate topic which is too often the subject of mockery and misunderstanding.
