Social Charity Spy: a digital sponsored silence and pufflings

18 Sep 2015 Voices

This week one charity asked people to stay away from social media while Greenpeace shared an exceptionally cute picture.

Get A-Head Social Silence

Head and neck cancer charity, Get A-Head, ran a slightly unusual campaign this week: the charity went silent on its social media channels and encouraged others to do the same for a day.

The campaign was inspired by the charity’s supporter Alice Bridge, who last year took part in a one-day silence to raise money in memory of a family friend who had died from a rare form of head and neck cancer.

Ahead of 16 September the charity encouraged people to use the search term #GAHSocialSilence to tell their followers that they would not be posting for the day and to text £3 to 70070.

Why we love it: to the delight of teachers everywhere school children always seem keen to take part in sponsored silences to raise money for charity so it seems like natural progression to develop an online version.

Greenpeace: Baby puffins are called…

This week Greenpeace UK’s Instagram account shared this photo as part of its ongoing save our sea life campaign.

Why we love it: baby animals are always cute (check out London Zoo’s baby animal channel if you want proof) and even cuter when they have fun names, this makes the image memorable and shareable to the organisation’s followers.
