Eastenders actress Diane Parish teamed up with the Stroke Association for this video to raise awareness of the impact of strokes among women.

Marking World Stroke Day on Wednesday, the video titled Women and Stroke: The Power of Three, highlights little-known facts about the condition.

According to Parish, every three and a half minutes, someone in the UK has a stroke – and around 30,000 women die from a stroke every year.

“It’s easy to go through life thinking a stroke could never happen to you. But in fact, it kills three times as many women as breast cancer,” said Parish. “By supporting the Stroke Association on World Stroke Day, we can help thousands of women conquer stroke.”

The video tells the story of 25-year-old stroke survivor ‘Annabel’, who suffered a stroke at work at the age of 22.

“I was absolutely terrified,” she said. “It was the most devastating time of my life, leaving me with sight loss, fatigue and depression. The message behind the Stroke Association’s latest video is so important. If I can help raise awareness of the risks of stroke, particularly in women, then hopefully we can prevent more people from experiencing this incredibly cruel condition.”
