Peter Lewis

Chief executive

Peter Lewis is chief executive of the Institute of Fundraising, a post he took up in October 2011.

He joined the Institute from the London Voluntary Service Council, the policy, support and advice organisation for London’s voluntary and community sector, where he had been chief executive for two years and eight months.

Lewis is a qualified solicitor who worked in the City at Allen & Overy after university, but left to get a better work/life balance and to work in a sector more closely aligned to his own values.

After leaving the law he was a development manager at Crisis and then executive director of the London Cycling Campaign. After that he spent nearly six years at the Greater London Authority as business manager for the Olympics, sport and regeneration.

Peter also spent nearly five years on the board of the London Marathon and was a non-executive director of the London Youth Games.  He remains on the board of the London Sustainability Exchange.
