The World Food Programme (WFP) is rolling out a web-based fleet management system across the 82 countries it operates in, replacing a predominantly paper-based arrangement.
The UN body hopes the rollout of Chevin Fleet Solutions’ FleetWave application will deliver better visibility of its delivery fleets and their requirements, increase efficiency and reduce costs.
The solution was implemented in Uganda in July and will be introduced across the whole organisation by the end of the year.
Previously the WFP’s system was predominantly paper-based, with certain countries such as Sudan and Afghanistan covered by RoadBase, another Chevin product designed for smaller and less complex fleets.
The product has been customised to meet the WFP’s needs, with the addition of a module to allow logistics teams in each country to enter data such as vehicle routing, journey duration and fuel consumption.
Another module gives managers access to an audit trail of when and where deliveries have been successfully dropped off.
These managers, as well as drivers and engineers, will have access to real-time data anywhere in the world where an internet connection is available.
The WFP is also considering further enhancements to the system, such as French translation for use in the organisation’s French-speaking countries, an offline version which can be updated when an internet connection is unavailable and later synced with the main system, and currency exchange rate functionality.
