Our weekly summary of the latest movers in the charity sector.

Chief executive

The Youth Hostels Association England and Wales has appointed James Blake as chief executive.

Blake previously sat on the YHA’s board of trustees for the last 12 years and joins the organisation from St Albans City and District Council, where he was chief executive.

Blake replaces Caroline White who announced that she would be standing down in the summer after nine years with the organisation.

Lorraine Heggessey has been appointed as the chief executive of The Royal Foundation.

Heggessey joined the foundation of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry in April. It is her first role in the charity sector.

Heggessey is best known for being the first female controller of the BBC, having worked in the role between 2000 and 2005.

National women’s charity Advance has appointed Niki Scordi as its new chief executive.

Scordi replaces Anna Smith in the role of chief executive. She has worked in the commercial sector as a finance director and chief executive for over 20 years, and has also recently taken up a trusteeship with domestic violence charity Ashiana.

Louise Fish has been appointed chief executive of the Tuberous Sclerosis Association (TSA).

Fish joins the charity in June from Tonic Life Communications, where she was a senior director. She also previously worked extensively in the health sector, having been director of communications and engagement for the NHS Confederation and director of communications with the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence.

Fish will replace current chief executive Jane Spink, who is set to join Genetic Alliance UK.

Non executive

Shayne Hembrow has been appointed as the new chair of Shelter Cymru, one of Wales’ biggest independent charities.

Hembrow is the deputy chief executive and commercial director of Wales and West Housing. He succeeds Diane McCrea, who joined the charity’s board in 2010 and was chair from 2012.

Sustainable development charity Raleigh International has appointed Khalid Koser as its new chair of trustees.

Dr. Koser is currently executive director of the Global Community Engagement and Resilience Fund, based in Geneva. He also currently holds a raft of positions, including chair of the World Economic Forum Global Future Council on Migration, and editor of the Journal of Refugee Studies.
