Who’s Moving: Action on Hearing Loss, Jewish Care and Lloyds Bank Foundation

Our weekly summary of the latest movers in the charity sector.

Chief executive

Mark Atkinson has announced that he will stand down as chief executive of Scope after less than three years to take the top job at Action on Hearing Loss.

Atkinson will replace Paul Breckell later this year. Breckell stood down as chief executive earlier this year for personal reasons and the charity has since been run on an interim basis in by Mike O’Connor.


Simon Blake has announced he will stand down as chief executive of the National Union of Students and take up the same role at a mental health social enterprise.

Blake, who has led the NUS for three years, will become chief executive of Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) England on 3 October.


Medical charity Cavernoma Alliance UK (CAUK) has appointed of its first chief executive, Helen Evans, with effect from mid-September 2018.

Evans was until recently chief executive of Getting Heard, an Oxfordshire based advocacy charity.

She was also Oxfam’s head of safeguarding between 2012 and 2015 and has spoken publicly about her time at the charity in the scandal earlier this year.


The Greater London Fund for the Blind has appointed Olivia Curno as chief executive, who starts today.

Curno joins from children's mental health charity Place2Be, where she was director of fundraising for four years.


Pre-hospital care charity, the British Association for Immediate Care (BASICS) has appointed a new general manager, Gary Scott. Scott has previously held senior management and director positions within the NHS.

HR and Leadership

Hanover Housing’s director of people, Angela Beerman, has been appointed as the new director of human resources and organisational development at Jewish Care. Beerman will be joining Jewish Care on 5 November.

Development

Lloyds Bank Foundation for England and Wales has announced the appointment of Jill Baker as the foundation’s first director of development.

She joins the foundation from North Tyneside Council where she served as assistant director of children’s services with responsibility for a range of services for vulnerable families, young people and children.

Non-executive

The Cystic Fibrosis Trust has appointed Richard Hunt as its chair of trustees.

Hunt, who was previously chair of the London Ambulance Service, takes over from George Jenkins.


Mencap has announced a new chair and two new vice-chairs of its Voices Council, a committee of dedicated individuals with learning disabilities, who meet to discuss the charity’s work and priorities.

They report to Mencap’s trustees and leadership team, influencing their priorities and decision.

Chair Jack Welch is from Dorset and is a member of several organisations including Ambitious About Autism, YoungMinds, and NHS England, which he advises on their engagement of people with a learning disability or autism.

Vice-chair Sam Jefferies joined the Voices Council in November 2015. He has been involved in campaigns with Mencap on the Isle of Wight, where he lives, and is also a part of other voluntary community organisations.

Vice-chair Andrew Wilson became a Mencap trustee in October 2015, bringing his expertise as someone with a learning disability. He also volunteers with the Leonard Cheshire Foundation and is a member of his local council ‘Disability Advisory’ and ‘Access and Inclusion’ groups.


RP Fighting Blindness has appointed Victoria Claire, a professional artist in contemporary sculpture for more than 25 years, as an ambassador.

Claire was diagnosed with the inherited sight loss condition retinitis pigmentosa at the age of 19, and registered blind at the age of 29.
