A summary of the latest announcements about grant programmes available to charities

Community Fridge Network Funding (Co-op and Hubbub)

Grants available: £4,000

Deadline to apply: 1 February

Who is the funding for? Community groups and non-profit organisations are encouraged to apply who would use the money to set up one of Co-op's Community Fridges  - a social space where anyone can share surplus food. This is to reduce food waste and help create community spaces. Applicants should be able to build the Community Fridge in the next six months.

Smart Energy GB in Communities Fund

Grants available: up to £25,000

Deadline to apply: 11 February

Who is the funding for?  The funding is open for applications from charities and voluntary organisations that help vulnerable people understand the benefits of smart meters. The government-backed campaign is aimed at helping over 65s, unpaid carers and people on low incomes. Grants will be awarded to regionally-based organisations, with local networks, that have a trusted voice amongst people who are: 

  • aged over 65: The total amount requested should be between £15,000 and £25,000
  • on a low income: defined as having an annual household income of less than £14,000 before tax. The total amount of grant requested should be between £7,500 and £10,000
  • are carers: defined as someone who provides unpaid care and support to a family member or friend who has a disability, illness, mental health condition, or who needs extra help as they grow older. The total amount of grant requested should be £5,000. 

 
When will you hear back?
Funded activities must be completed by 7 December, suggesting that charities and organisations will hear back several months before then.

#ShiftThePower Scotland Comic Relief Fund

Grants available: up to £25,000

Deadline to apply: 8 March

Who in the funding for? The funding is for community groups, organisations and charities with an income of £250,000 or less whose work fits one of two themes: supporting children who are at a disadvantage from 0-5 years old and mental health matters. Corra Foundation and Comic Relief, who have partnered on the fund, have asked for applications that demonstrate how the money will empower people and make positive change.

When will you hear back? May (though this may be later depending on the amount of applications).

Healthy Heart Fund (Heart Research UK and Subway) - Wales

Grants available: £10,000

Deadline to apply: 28 February

Who in the funding for? The fund is for charities, community groups, voluntary organisations and sports groups that are helping local people look after their hearts. They will fund projects that are delivering health initiatives like cooking skills, healthy eating and accessible exercise. This grant has different opening dates depending on region. 11 other grants will have staggered releases over the year.

The Harold Hyam Wingate Foundation Fund

Grants available: £1,000 or more

Deadline to apply: 11 March

Who is the funding for? The fund is for organisations that target four key areas:

  • Jewish life and learning
  • Performing arts
  • Music
  • Medical research travel grants

When will you hear back? Not specified

The Dulverton Trust #iwill fund

Grants available: up to £35,000

Deadline to apply: 15 March

Who is the funding for? Applications to the Dulverton Trust #iwill Fund are open to UK-registered charities that are working in England to create youth social action opportunities with 10–20-year-olds in two areas of focus: heritage and issues facing rural communities. The Dulverton Trust is encouraging all applicants to contact the team before applying to ensure your charity or project meets its criteria. The funding is open for applications on a rolling basis.
