Wales Council for Voluntary Action (WCVA) has appointed Ruth Marks as chief executive. She replaces Graham Benfield, who retired after 25 years.
Marks is the former director of care and development for Reach, part of the supported housing provider, the Seren Group.
Last year she was selected to lead a review of the Healthcare Inspectorate Wales, in which she analysed areas in need of reform to improve its regulatory and inspection functions.
She was previously appointed as Wales’ first older people’s commissioner and has held stints as director of RNIB Cymru and training officer for WCVA between 1992 and 1995.
In 2007, Marks was awarded an MBE for services to welfare work.
“I have a longstanding passion and commitment to the voluntary sector,” she said.
“I am delighted to have the opportunity to lead WCVA and be a strong independent voice for the third sector in Wales."
