It’s no laughing matter but Victoria Wood will be making women chuckle in a comedy performance to raise awareness about heart disease in women for the British Heart Foundation.

It’s no laughing matter but Victoria Wood will be making woman chuckle in a comedy performance to raise awareness about heart disease in women for the British Heart Foundation (BHF).

The Angina Monologues will be performed on Sunday 5 December at the Royal Haymarket Theatre in London. Live screenings of the performance will also be shown at 30 Vue cinemas across the UK.

The BHF recruited comedian Victoria through Phil McIntyre Entertainments to perform in the show to help draw attention to heart disease in women as part of a wider campaign by the BHF. Several other high profile figures will also be performing.

The heart of the matter

The BHF hope to dispel the misconception that only men get heart disease and encourage women to pay attention to the health of their hearts, by incorporating these grim statistics into the performance.

Jenny Legg, media officer at the BHF said: “We’re using a comedy event as an engaging way to raise the profile of our health messages around heart disease and give women a positive reason to talk about their heart health.”

Fundraising is not main priority

Legg emphasised that the campaign was created primarily to raise awareness, not to fundraise. She added that while ticket revenues will go towards unrestricted funding for the BHFs work, patrons of the show would not be asked to make any further donations to the charity.

However members of the public interested in knowing more about the campaign will be able to register their email address on the Angina Monologues website.

Tickets for the Angina Monologues can be brought online through the show’s website. Theatre tickets cost £25 and cinema tickets are priced at £10.
