Around 85 workers at a local Citizens Advice charity will now be formally represented by their trade union after over a year of negotiations.

This week, trade union Unite announced that staff at North Tyneside Citizens Advice would have formal representation to negotiate on pay, conditions and workplace changes.

Under the agreement, the charity has two elected workplace representatives and two health and safety reps.

Unite said this will provide “meaningful day-to-day support for staff, improve communication between employees and management and ensure workers have trained, accountable representatives championing their interests”.

“The addition of dedicated health and safety reps will also enhance workplace safety, risk management, and wellbeing for all employees,” the union added.

Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said: “This is an excellent win for Unite members at North Tyneside Citizens Advice Bureau.

“Going forward, they now will be able to collectively improve workers’ jobs, pay and conditions at the organisation.”

Unite regional officer Craig Patterson said: “This is a positive development for staff at North Tyneside Citizens Advice.

“It lays the foundation for collective bargaining and ensures that workers have a strong, independent voice in shaping their working environment.”
