Kath Abrahams has joined baby-loss and premature birth charity Tommy’s as its chief executive.

She replaces Jane Brewin, who retired this month after over 20 years in post.

Abrahams has been director of engagement and fundraising at Diabetes UK for the last six years. She previously held senior fundraising roles at King’s College London, Breakthrough Breast Cancer and the NSPCC.

She was also a trustee of the Chartered Institute of Fundraising between 2013 and 2019.

Abrahams said: “I feel enormously privileged to take on the leadership of such an important cause. Our research to save babies’ lives by reducing the rates of miscarriage, premature birth and stillbirth is achieving tremendous impact. And the support we offer to people on their sometimes-devastating pregnancy journey is outstanding.

“But our work is a long way from being done. Far too many pregnancies continue to end in loss and there is so much more we need to do to make pregnancy and birth safer for everyone no matter who you are or where you live. I look forward to working alongside our wonderful community of researchers and supporters and our many partner organisations to save more babies’ lives.”
