Marie Curie has said three members of its senior executive team will leave the charity in April.

The charity announced today that following a review of its corporate services it has created two new roles and three senior directors will leave the charity as a result. It said the departing directors had led and supported the review.

Belinda Brown, director of people planning and performance, leaves on 6 April. Andrew Whitehead, director of finance and Charlie Hooper, chief information officer, will leave later in the month.

Civil Society News asked what terms the directors had left under, but the charity would not confirm.

“The three directors led and fully supported this review into our corporate services and throughout their priority has been to do what is best for the charity and they were fully aware that the outcome could be their own departure,” the spokesman said.

Marie Curie’s current general counsel and company secretary, Penny Laurence-Parr will become the director of strategy and performance, effective from 1 April. Laurence-Parr’s role covers the strategic, governance and performance functions.

Jackie Freeman will join the charity as director of corporate services in May. She joins from restaurant chain Strada where she is the chief financial officer.

Freeman’s role will see her responsible for leading the charity’s corporate service functions including Finance, IT, HR and Volunteering.

Directors ‘led and supported the review’

Jane Collins, chief executive, said: “The environment in which Marie Curie operates is changing. There is a growing need for the care we provide through our nursing and hospice services and we are facing an increasingly challenging economic environment.

“Marie Curie must continue to evolve and adapt to meet these challenges. Following a review of our corporate services, we are consolidating roles and responsibilities on the executive team. The three outgoing directors, who have led and fully supported this review, have all made significant contributions to our work and strategic objectives and we are very sorry to see them go.

“We welcome Jackie Freeman to the charity as director of corporate services and Penny Laurence-Parr to the new role of director of strategy and performance. The work we are doing to improve our efficiency and effectiveness is an important step in ensuring we remain a sustainable provider of high quality care and support for people living with a terminal illness and their families.”

In 2014 Marie Curie brought its marketing, fundraising, communications, and policy and public affairs departments to create a new directorate.
