Supermarket transfers £350,000 of apprenticeship levy funds to cancer charity

Supermarket Aldi has announced it will transfer £350,000 of its apprenticeship levy funds to Teenage Cancer Trust to help staff at the charity’s head office to develop further in their current roles.

Since the levy was introduced in 2017, all employers in the UK with an annual pay bill of more than £3m have been required to set aside 0.5% of their yearly wage costs to fund training for apprentices.

Under the scheme, employers can spend their levy funds on training their own staff or transfer up to 50% of it to other organisations.

Teenage Cancer Trust said it will use the money it has received from Aldi to enable its staff to gain industry-recognised qualifications relevant to their area of expertise and help them to build new skills in their roles.

Michelle Aucott, partnerships manager at Teenage Cancer Trust, said: “This support from Aldi will help us invest in our team so they can be the best they can be.

“That means we can continue giving the best possible care and support to young people facing cancer.”

Aldi’s levy funds transfer forms part of its pledge to raise £20m for Teenage Cancer Trust by 2031, £12m of which has already been raised.
