Media and design students at Leeds Metropolitan University are using their skills to revamp a local PDSA charity shop, in a pilot partnership scheme that could be rolled out UK-wide.

The run-down store in Headingly, Leeds will open on 13 May after more than just a lick of paint. The media and graphic design students aim to make the charity store more appealing to the student population by rebranding and refitting into a "vintage style boutique".

Renamed The Attic, the facelift sees the traditional blue PDSA logo transformed to a vibrant pink feather and the distribution of donation bins in the surrounding areas decorated with dog-themed graphics.

A Facebook group has been set up to encourage both popularity and donations. The site currently has 241 members.

PDSA area retail manager, Graeme Allen, said: "PDSA is delighted to be turning the students' excellent ideas into reality so that we can increase turnover at the store to raise more funds to help poorly pets in Leeds.

"It's great to be working with Leeds Metropolitan University on this ongoing project, and if successful, the concept of student partnerships could be rolled out to other PDSA stores around the UK."
