Anglia Ruskin plans a second intake for its 'Big Society' course on social enterprise management, which is currently over-subscribed with students including employees from the British Red Cross, Mencap and WRVS.

The course, Certificate of Higher Education in Charity and Social Enterprise Management, will begin in September and run for two years.

An Anglia Ruskin spokesman said: "Exceptional demand for Anglia Ruskin University’s new course to help charities, social enterprises and local authorities respond to the challenges and opportunities of the 'Big Society' has meant that another will now begin in September."

The current round of the course is being studied by professionals from a range of charities and local authorities, including the British Red Cross, Mid-Norfolk Mencap, WRVS and Essex County Councils.

Jan Coatham, senior service manager at the British Red Cross, said: “Knowledge gained from this course will enable the British Red Cross to generate their own funding through social enterprises, meaning we can take on projects that wouldn’t normally attract funds.”

Modules include marketing, finance and funding, measuring social impact and social enterprise. The two-year distance learning course costs £823 per year and features around one face-to-face teaching session per month, with assessment based on assignments, projects and presentations.
