Sightsavers is urging people ‘put themselves in the picture’ and add their social media profile to an online photo mosaic, calling on politicians to commit to disability-inclusive development policies.
As more people add their Twitter or Facebook profile photo to the mosaic it will reveal a larger image representing the inclusion of people with disabilities.
Sightsavers is aiming for at least 5,000 people to ‘put themselves in the picture’, before it uses the results in September to campaign ahead of the United Nation’s summit on the post-2015 development goals.
It is part of the charity’s Put Us in the Picture campaign and is Sightsavers’ main policy focus in the lead-up to the general election in 2015.
Kate McCoy, Sightsavers’ social media manager, said: “We wanted to create something which helped people immediately connect with a relatively complex issue, and demonstrate that their participation has tangible impact.”
In 2012 the National Trust offered people the chance to ‘carve’ their face into a digital image of the White Cliffs of Dover in return for a donation to help it buy a stretch of the land. The appeal hit its target just over four months after its launch.
