Save the Children has launched its ‘largest ever’ Christmas campaign, which includes a new fundraising initiative - Christmas Jumper Day - with 275,000 people signed up so far.
On 14 December the charity is calling on the public to wear a festive jumper and make a £1 donation.
Head of national community participation at Save the Children UK, Terence Lovell said: “Our aim is to create a Christmas jumper takeover which taps into the current trend for festive knitwear with the UK public to become Save the Children’s flagship annual fundraising initiative.”
Celebrities supporting the campaign include Lisa Snowdon, Myleene Klass, Lauren Laverne, Ashley Jensen, Jon Snow, Mark Wright, V V Brown, Alison Steadman, Erin O’Connor, Ben Forster (click on the thumbnails below). And the charity’s corporate partners getting involved are Morrisons, Mothercare, Arsenal Football Club, John Lewis, and Westfield.
The charity is also selling a Christmas bauble, available in Lloyds bank, Mothercare, Early Learning Centre and its own shops, for £1, and will launch a television campaign as well as print and digital activity.
It is also continuing with the alternative Christmas Wishlist range, where people buy virtual gifts in someone else’s name as a donation to the charity. This year’s virtual presents include baby scales, food bundles and a camel library.
Last year’s Christmas fundraising activity included partnerships with Bulgari and Ikea where a portion of the proceeds from sales of a ring and a soft toy (respectively) were donated. Save the Children was also one of the Independent newspaper's supported charities and 100 per cent of the profit from Early Learning Centre Christmas cards was donated to the charity. Mothercare also donated £5 per sale of cuddly bears.
