Ambitious about Autism has announced that, as a result of Sally Bercow’s appearance on Celebrity Big Brother, the charity will receive a donation of £100,000.
Last night, Bercow entered the Celebrity Big Brother (CBB) house, along with Jedward, Kerry Katona and Tara Reid.
A charity spokesman said that Bercow, who is a parent patron of Ambitious about Autism, only agreed to go on the popular reality TV show when programme-makers offered to make a substantial donation to the charity of her choice.
Bercow, who is wife of parliamentary speaker John Bercow, will be paid £50,000 for participating in the new series of Celebrity Big Brother (CBB) on Channel Five.
Her publicist Max Clifford told civilsociety.co.uk that £20,000 of this will be paid for one month's PR and a portion would go to her agent. "She will probably end up with £15,000 in total," said Clifford.
On top of this the producers of CBB will make the £100,000 donation to Ambitious about Autism.
Bercow said: “I am delighted to be going on Celebrity Big Brother. As far as I’m concerned, it would be rude not to – it’s not only a fun show but the charity I’m a patron of, Ambitious about Autism, will also benefit to the tune of £100,000”.
The new series of CBB started last night.
