More than a quarter of a million members of the public have signed up to use the volunteering website GoVo, the Royal Voluntary Service (RVS) has reported.

The digital platform, which was launched in October 2025, has been backed by £5m from the People’s Postcode Lottery, with the aim to “supercharge” volunteering in the UK by widening access and removing barriers.

RVS asked charities of all sizes to sign up in June last year, receiving more than 2,000 registrations from charities prior to its October launch.

However, a lower number of charities – around 1,500 – currently have volunteering vacancies listed on the website, RVS told Civil Society.

Overall, there are over 8,000 volunteering opportunities live on GoVo, RVS said.

Businesses approached

Last month, RVS opened up the platform to employers, with its GoVo for Business scheme, to improve access to employee volunteering.

RVS said on its website that it will be aiming to reduce some of the estimated 140 million corporate volunteering hours going unused in the UK.

Carole Urey, RVS’s chief revenue officer, said: “Disconnected and disengaged employees can be costly for employers. These feelings not only reduce productivity but can also impact brand reputation and retention.

“Volunteering through workplace programmes is a proven way to improve wellbeing, connection and productivity, whilst contributing to society. It’s a win-win.”
