Pennies, a micro-donation tool, has announced that it has now raised over £7.5m for some 200 charities through some 32 million individual micro-donations from the public.

At an event held in London yesterday, Alison Hutchinson, chief executive of Pennies, announced that the micro-donation organisation had now reached the £7.5m milestone, since its launch in 2010.

Over the last 12-months, Pennies have processed over 12 million micro-donations, raising £3m for charity.

Hutchinson also announced that three new brands – Dixons Carphone, Boots Opticians and Virgin Holidays – have signed up to raise money for good causes using the Pennies platform.

“In the UK we like the chance to easily give a little as part of our everyday lives. And with around a third of us leaving the house with no cash, just cards these days, Pennies makes it possible – and simple - to give our digital small change a big purpose at the touch of a button and because we don’t keep personal data there is a guarantee of no follow up.

“We are thrilled the UK public are getting behind this way of donating. Already someone gives through Pennies somewhere every 3 seconds, and so with more major brands coming on board it provides even more opportunities to join in.”

Hutchison also said that Pennies has now expanded to support more than 200 UK charities. An increase of over 100 in the last year.

Pennies also announced that it had published its 2015/16 impact report, which included featured charities including the Wilderness Foundation UK and the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Pennies is a digital charity box, which allows people to make small donations to good causes when paying by card.
