Peacebuilding charity International Alert has commissioned a dramatic campaign film to demonstrate the power of dialogue in bringing peace in the face of violence.

Peacebuilding charity International Alert has commissioned a dramatic campaign film to demonstrate the power of dialogue in bringing peace in the face of violence.

The film was produced pro bono by advertising firm HMDG. Flying in the face of the stereotypical 'flower power' image of peace organisations, the advert uses computer generated imagery to show bullets coming from the mouths of people in dispute, and is set to the music of Massive Attack's single, Angel. David Morrissey lends his voice to the commentary.

Tanya Hassan, head of fundraising for International Alert, said the advert, released on Friday (7 October) is particularly timely: "We are grateful to all involved who helped make this video a reality. With this video we are hoping to get people passionate about peace again! With the Arab springs and even the recent riots in the UK, peacebuilding is needed both abroad and right on our doorsteps."

The release of the advertisement comes just weeks after the launch of the countdown to Global Truce 2012, organised by unrelated charity Peace One Day, which calls for a worldwide ceasefire and end to violence. The aim is that on 21 September 2012, the world will drop its weapons and domestic violence will cease for 24 hours. The movement has received support from the United Nations and communities around the world.
