The Professional Fundraising Regulatory Association intends to increase the number of street fundraising agreements with local councils twofold by the end of this year, and has taken on a local government secondee to push towards that target.
Lucy Ellender (pictured) today joins the PFRA as an outreach officer, seconded from the Local Government Association which only recently recommended that all councils come to site management agreements – which place restrictions on when and where street fundraising teams can operate within a local authority.
The PFRA hopes that the addition of Ellender, presently a programme officer at the LGA, will add momentum to its effort to double the number of site management agreements it presently manages, from 51 to 100 by the end of this year.
Head of policy at the PFRA Dr Toby Ganley said: “We need to be able to find ways into councils we haven’t had much engagement with and, with her extensive contacts, Lucy is the perfect person to help us do that.”
Ellender said she looks forward to “changing people’s attitudes towards face-to-face fundraising”.
“The prospect of helping charities to identify and gain new donors and funding as well as giving councils and their communities greater control over how and when fundraising takes place really attracted me to this role,” she said.
