Twenty-three environment projects get grants from NLCF's Climate Action Fund

The National Lottery Community Fund (NLCF) has awarded more than £19.5m in grants to community organisations tackling the climate emergency.

These are the first grants from the Climate Action Fund, with 23 projects getting support. Nine grant holders were announced yesterday, while 14 were revealed in August. 

Successful bids include a range of partnership projects, as well as development schemes, all supporting communities to take local climate action.

The Climate Action Fund, is a ten-year, £100m fund, which aims to reduce the carbon footprint of communities. NLCF said it will learn from this round of funding as it develops its approach. 

‘Communities are best placed to understand their places and spaces’

Nick Gardner, head of climate action at the NLCF, said: “This year we have been reminded that communities are best placed to understand their places and spaces, and so often play a vital role in responding in a crisis.” 

Successful he projects includes Green Meadows project in Nottingham, which got  £1.5m to equip local people with the skills and support to have more energy efficient homes.
