National Charity Partnership between BHF, Diabetes UK and Tesco raises £10m

18 May 2016 News

A corporate partnership between the British Heart Foundation, Diabetes UK and Tesco has raised £10m since it launched in January 2015.

A corporate partnership between the British Heart Foundation, Diabetes UK and Tesco has raised £10m since it launched in January 2015.

The three year partnership aims to raise £30m by January 2018.

Over 300,000 Tesco employees have taken part in a number of joint fundraising activities over the last 16 months, including participating in flagship events such as On Your March, Beach Bonanza and the Superheroes weekend – each of which raised between £400,000 and £600,000 for the partnership.

Around 4,000 Diabetes UK and BHF volunteers also raised over £370,000 through bucket collections at Tesco stores in February and June 2015.

Hannah Chauhan, head of fundraising for the National Charity Partnership at the BHF, said the partnership between the two charities and Tesco made sense, as Type 2 diabetes can double a person’s risk of developing heart disease.

“Type 2 diabetes can double a person’s risk of heart and circulatory disease and the number of people in the UK currently at increased risk of developing both is in the millions. Diabetes UK and the British Heart Foundation are working together with Tesco to help make a different and help millions of people to reduce their risk of both.”

Jenna Hall, programme director for the National Charity Partnership at Diabetes UK, said: “The commitment shown by Tesco colleagues nationwide to involve their customers and fundraise for this cause is truly inspiring. Thanks to their support, we have already begun investing money into joint prevention projects across the UK which are helping millions of people to improve their health.”

Tesco also launched a surplus food distribution charity partnership in 2015 with the Children’s Foods Trust and FareShare.
