Macmillan Cancer Support is to launch a companion event to its £15m-raising World’s Biggest Coffee Morning fundraiser next month.
A Really Good Night In will take place on 26 April, and is similar to Coffee Morning in that it involves friends and family coming together, but puts the emphasis on an evening get-together and broadens the scope of activities on offer.
As with the Coffee Morning, the host signs up to receive a fundraising kit, but can pick from themes such as having a few drinks and nibbles, a girly pamper night or a chance to enjoy arts and crafts.
A spokeswoman for Macmillan told civilsociety.co.uk that since Really Good Night In is in its maiden year no fundraising target has been set, but the charity is asking hosts to try and raise at least £100 – which it says would easily be covered by asking guests for a donation at the start of the evening.
She added that Macmillan expects the take-up of the event to be "in the thousands", and that the new concept sprung up from Coffee Morning hosts wishing to have another opportunity to get together and support Macmillan. Future annual Coffee Mornings will still continue.
The announcement comes in the same week that volunteering charity WRVS announced that it is launching its own tea-based fundraising event.
