Discount retail website LivingSocial has teamed up with GlobalGiving to launch a Christmas fundraising scheme to raise money for five charity projects in five different countries worldwide.

12 Days of Giving comprises a discounted daily Christmas gift or experience day deal from December 13 to December 24.

One per cent of every sale in Australia, Canada and the UK will go to GlobalGiving projects in these countries and to projects in India and Thailand.

As part of the deal customers will be able to choose which country project they want their money to go to. LivingSocial also aim to fund local projects in areas where deals are brought by customers.

The LivingSocial UK project will focus on building playgrounds for children. An additional 1 per cent of each UK purchase will be given to Barnardo’s to help the charity fund localised projects.

GlobalGiving, based in Washington DC, provides a digital platform on which over 1,000 charitable projects can promote their cause and project needs.

A 15 per cent fee is deducted from the tax-free donations. According to GlobalGiving, this is spent assessing the credibility of projects, promoting causes and ensuring donations are put to use within two months.
