JustGiving is introducing a news feed and social notifications for users as part of its plans for a new-look site.

The fundraising platform has combined data from its GiveGraph software, which was launched earlier this year containing data about its users’ behaviour, and Open Graph from Facebook, which allows developers to integrate their applications more deeply with the social network, to produce a news feed telling users what their JustGiving contacts are doing.

Users who have indicated that they support an organisation using JustGiving’s ‘care’ button will also receive updates from those organisations in their news feed.

Zarine Kharas, founder of JustGiving, said: “Today we’re launching our new social platform: to help people discover and be inspired by the amazing things their friends do for the causes they care about. This new social JustGiving will help charities and their supporters reach more people, inspire more action and raise more money.”

JustGiving now has more than ten million users in the UK, with three million of those signing up in the past 12 months.

One of the reasons for the growth in the number of users is the integration with Facebook. More than 40 per cent of traffic to JustGiving now comes from Facebook and JustGiving users have shared more than 905 million stories on Facebook.

The new social platform is being rolled out to users over the next few weeks, and users can register for early access on JustGiving’s website.
