Interim managers have been appointed to oversee the disposal of a Liverpool-based charity’s properties as concerns over its governance and financial management are investigated.
The Charity Commission opened a statutory inquiry into CG Community Council in April last year, with its trustees blocked from selling the 16 properties for which the charity held the leasehold at the time due to concerns they might be “at risk”.
Now, the charity’s trustees have been excluded as part of the investigation, with Charles Turner and Emma Mifsud of Opus Business Advisory Group appointed as interim managers to assume responsibility for its day-to-day management.
Turner and Mifsud have been tasked with disposing of the charity’s properties in a way they consider is in the best interests of the charity and its beneficiaries.
The commission has also instructed them to ensure any rents due to the charity are collected and banked appropriately and to assess the charity’s financial viability.
CG Community Council, established in the 1960s to support local people in Croxteth and Gillmoss, has recorded no income or expenditure for the past three financial years.
It last posted an income and expenditure of £19,000 in the year to March 2022.
As part of its ongoing investigation, the commission is examining whether the charity has accounted for its funds and assets in line with legal requirements, and assessing if it has suffered any financial losses as a result of any misconduct or mismanagement.
