After launching its package for nonprofits in the US last week, Google has confirmed that UK charities will also be able to benefit from Google for Nonprofits in the future.

After launching its package for nonprofits in the US last week, Google has confirmed that UK charities will also be able to benefit from Google for Nonprofits in the future.

Google for Nonprofits combines a range of Google applications with Google's AdWords, YouTube, Analytics and Map programmes, in a one-stop-shop designed to help charities manage their IT services and advertise online for less.

While there is no date yet set for the launch of the service in the UK, Google is “working on it” a spokesman for the web conglomorate told Civil Society. “We absolutely plan on expanding Google for Nonprofits to other regions including the UK,” he said, adding, “The team was able to get the program together for US-based nonprofits, we decided not to wait until we could do the same for other countries before offering the tools to nonprofits in the US.”

Google has witnessed a number of success stories from charities in the US using their services, including Direct Relief International which raised more than $1m using Google’s AdWords programme. For some time Google Grants has been awarding nonprofits with free advertising via the AdWords programme, which presents adverts based on keyword searches performed by the user, and within the Google for Nonprofits scheme, charities could gain access to $10,000 a month in advertising.

Tools such as the Google Maps facility will help organisations illustrate their global context, said the spokesman, and Google Analytics will help charities assess where visitors to their website find them and how they use the site.

A range of new charity resources will also be available to successful applicants to the scheme including educational videos and a marketplace which will connect charities with service providers offering discounts or pro-bono services.
