Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity’s first-ever livestreamed fundraiser, by YouTube star TommyInnit, raised £469,282, the organisation has said.
The money raised goes towards helping build a new children’s cancer centre at the hospital, which combines research, treatments and child-centred care under one roof.
Content creator TommyInnit fronted The Curious Case of the Cooper Key – an interactive whodunnit-style livestream – over last weekend.
Viewers worked together to solve the mystery, alongside a cast of other content creators.
TommyInnit was inspired to raise money for the charity after losing a friend, fellow YouTuber Technoblade, to cancer in 2022.
He visited GOSH earlier this year to meet families and hear how money raised towards the cancer centre will help children.
GOSH treats the highest number of children with cancer in the UK, but the charity has said that recent advances have outstripped its current facilities’ capacity, and that it needs a new home to deliver cutting-edge treatments and conduct research.
‘Helping drive transformation in children’s cancer care’
Talking about the fundraiser, Sarah Bissell, GOSH Charity's deputy director of relationship fundraising, said: “This weekend, we were so excited to put on GOSH Charity’s first-ever livestreamed fundraiser.
“We are delighted to share that the livestream raised an incredible £469,282 – all of which will go towards helping to build the new children’s cancer centre at Great Ormond Street Hospital,” Bissell said.
“We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who tuned in, donated and supported the event. The money raised will help drive transformation in children’s cancer care and save more lives – making a difference for generations to come.”
TommyInnit said ahead of the fundraiser: “Supporting GOSH Charity’s Build it. Beat it. Appeal means so much to me.
“Losing my close friend Technoblade to cancer reminded me just how devastating this disease is,” he added.
“By coming together online for this event and solving this curious mystery (with the help of a few famous faces), we can help build a new children’s cancer centre at GOSH and give more children the chance of a brighter future.”
