There has been relatively little research done to date on the prevalence of audit committees; their terms of reference; and their membership. So I hope our special survey on this will be of interest to a wide range of readers.

I was particularly struck by two things. First, the number of non-trustees serving on charity audit committees these days and, second, by the number of non-financial, lay members. It's refreshing to see that audit committees are no longer the exclusive preserve of qualified accountants.

There is also a rich seam of valuable information included in our inaugural Charity Insurance Survey. Launched at the request of our readers, the survey provides a unique insight into the insurance issues that charities are grappling with, the premiums they pay and the insurance companies and brokers that they use.

Stephen Perry, formerly FD and now director of transformation at Housing 21, is a fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute and has written a fascinating piece about insurance matters affecting charities.
