Clic Sargent has secured a three-year, £1m renewal of its partnership with budget supermarket chain Lidl.
The new three-year partnership, announced today, aims to raise £1m. It follows on from a 15-month partnership between the children’s cancer charity and the retailer which raised £358,900 against a target of £150,000.
Lidl expects to raise the sum via staff fundraising and donating profits from specific items to Clic Sargent. The partnership thus far has seen Clic Sargent receive £20,000 via the sale of mini-muffins in March and a further £12,000 from the sale of stollen treats over Christmas.
Clic Sargent was selected as charity partner from a shortlist of 17 charities in October 2012. Rather than a staff vote, management selected the charity based on which one they felt was the best fit for the company.
A spokeswoman told civilsociety.co.uk that the pair decided they could mutually achieve more by building a long term relationship. “The decision was made to extend that partnership beyond 2013 as both parties felt that there was a great fit between the two organisations and the staff felt very strongly about the cause,” she said.
Clic Sargent chief executive Lorraine Clifton the charity is thrilled with the Lidl staff’s fundraising thus far. “We are delighted at the success so far and are very much looking forward to the next three years,” she said.
Ronny Gottschlich, managing director of Lidl UK, said staff had enjoyed the partnership, adding: “We’re excited to see the partnership grow over the next three years as we push towards our £1m target.”
