Channel 4 is to air a 20-part series about the work of vet charity PDSA.
The broadcaster spent six months filming at two of the charity's pet hospitals for the new programme The People's Vet.
PDSA offers low-cost and free veterinary treatment for animals belonging to people on low incomes. It hopes the series will be an opportunity to showcase its work.
Matt Forshaw, senior vet at Huyton hospital, said: "We are dealing with some of the country’s most vulnerable pets and owners. The sheer number and variety of cases we see is amazing, so there’s no shortage of great stories for a programme maker.
"It was quite an experience having the cameras on site. Any initial concerns we had were quickly overcome and they only filmed staff and pet owners who were happy with cameras present. Nothing was staged; they just wanted to capture real life."
The People’s Vet will be shown on Saturdays at 4.30pm from 4 August on Channel 4.
