More than 400 charity sector jobs are at risk after Broadcasting Support Services, a charity helpline provider, went into administration earlier this month.

More than 400 charity sector jobs are at risk after Broadcasting Support Services, a charity helpline provider, went into administration earlier this month.

Resolve Partners Limited has been appointed to run the charity and some areas of the business continue to operate.

Callers to the charity received a message that Resolve Partners Limited was appointed on 17 July and that “The affairs, business and property of the company are being managed by the administrators.”

BSS was founded in 1975 and provides contact centre services, such as telephone, email and text message helplines. Its charity clients included Mind, ActionAid and Carers UK.

Accounts for the year ending 31 March 2014 show that the charity had an income of £18.2m and expenditure of £19.9m, resulting in an operating loss of £1.7m. The previous year it made a £275,000 surplus. Unrestricted funds were £5.7m.

In 2014 11 people earned more than £60,000, with the highest paid individual earning more than £150,000.

According to the latest information held by the Charity Commission, it employed 422 people across six sites.

According to the Manchester Evening News 100 staff based in Manchester have been made redundant and the office will close on 14 August.
