Microsoft’s search engine Bing has revealed the first five charities that will take over its homepage this week for the launch of its Help Your Britain campaign.

The campaign aims to raise awareness of the work being done by smaller charities in their local communities and will feature a different charity every month after its launch week.

Bing decided to do the campaign following a photography competition that it ran last year celebrating Britain. It then looked for charities to feature in the launch week and the charities that Bing has chosen to feature are:

  • Magic Breakfast which delivers free breakfast to primary schools.
  • Lifelites which provides education and entertainment technologies to children's hospices.
  • All Dogs Matter which is a voluntary dog rehoming centre in London.
  • User Voice which aims to reform the criminal justice system by encouraging communication between ex-offenders and policy makers.
  • Lifecycle UK which is Bristol-based charity to promote cycling.

Search engine users will be able to click on ‘hot spots’ on the picture on Bing’s homepage to find out more about the problems faced by each charity. They can also click through to a dedicated page about the campaign showing videos from each charity, updated throughout the week, as well as details of how to donate.

Members of the public can nominate UK charities, using the form on the Help Your Britain homepage, that they think should be featured in the future and one charity will be featured on the last Friday of every month.
