And finally … Film of the Week

RSPCA has received a £18,000 donation windfall this week thanks to everyone’s favourite or worst toast spread - Marmite.

Marmite’s new advert, End Marmite Neglect, caused uproar after some felt it was in poor taste and that it trivialised the work of animal welfare charities and child protection agencies.

The advert, which is a humorous satire of animal and child-welfare adverts, has generated more than 400 complaints to the Advertising Standards Agency since its launch this Monday. The ASA is still deciding whether to take action.

Unilever, the owner of Marmite, has donated £18,000 to the RSPCA as a result.

However, while some members of the public are outraged, generally charities have taken the advert in good humour. Peta commented: “While it is tongue-in-cheek about the neglect of the jarred yeasty spread, it is jarring enough to remind viewers of the hard job of animal law-enforcement officers.”
